SI5.5 Update NoticesThis document discusses important information for customers updating from a previous version of SI5. Both server and desktop must be updatedSI5.5 requires that both the server and all desktop machines be running SI5.5 in order to function. If you update one without the other, you will not be able to access SI5. See the Launch Update for more information. File size requirementsSI5.5 requires .Net Framework 3.5 SP1, which requires 28 MB of disk space (on both server and desktop), and which will be installed automatically when upgrading to SI5.5. Additionally, the SI5.5 desktop install requires about 80MB to install. Server database conversionDuring the update, your server database will be converted to SI5.5. This process is not reversible, so special care should be taken while running the server update. Click here to see special instructions for updating your server to SI5.5. Server project folder subfolder changeAs part of the update, project files on your SI5 server will be copied into new directories underneath the main folder. The new folders will have long complex names uniquely identifying the project. The old project subfolders (/Client/Project) will remain; however they will not be used going forward and can be deleted once any update issues are resolved. Some projects may not convertDuring the server database conversion, it is possible that one or more of your projects may not be converted. This will only occur if there was a problem with the project in your existing database. This is discussed in more detail here. Re-register your server after updateAfter you update your server, be sure to open the Administration Console at least once to re-register your software. The upside: with 5.5, you only need to register your server. Desktop users no longer need to verify licenses. Licensing and permission changesSI5.5 includes important changes to the ways licenses are handled. For example, users are no longer restricted to a particular license, but can take the first available license available. This also means that all users in an enterprise have been upgraded to full Pro seats with Business Manager. Restricting user access to things like Quicklinks is now managed via permissions and you’ll want to set this up in the Admin Console. Install Utility is now obsoleteWith 5.5, the Install Utility is now obsolete and can be removed from your system. |
